Let's face it, we aren't all ALWAYS level-headed.
Being on solid ground is one thing, but being on level ground is another. How many times are you doing something around the house and you just "eyeball it". No need to break out the level and get it just to the exact millimeter. I totally agree!
I want to let you in on a little secret of a way to make sure the next time you hang a piece of art, a picture or something with two hooks, the easiest way to know EXACTLY where to put the nails at on the wall.
All you will need is a tube of lipstick, yes lipstick, not some fancy carpenters glue or anything like that! Your lipstick the one you have in your purse. Place a generous dab at the center of each of the hooks/ ledge/ fixtures that will ultimately rest on top of the nails in the wall.
Once you have a thick coat, on each of the fixtures, take that art/frame/ item and hold it in front of the wall where you want to hang the item. Press it firmly against the wall so that you transfer the lipstick blobs onto the wall itself. (DONT WORRY NEAT FREAKS! It's going to wipe right off!)
Once you have pressed it against the wall for a few seconds, slowly lift the item by pulling directly away from the wall. Be careful not to drag it along the surface as we want the only markings on the wall to be where the fixtures were at.
Now you know exactly where you nails and screws need to be placed into the wall. Position them in and then wipe away any residual lipstick. Now hang your frame on the nails you have placed into the wall, and you are done!
As far as a level is concerned, well it never hurts to have an extra set of hands to help you see if it is level before you puncture the wall, but now you at least know the exact distance you need between screws.
We look forward to helping you with any space, hanging photos, or giving you weird ways to use lipstick. Let us know how we can help and send us your before and afters to be featured on the site!
