In this installment attempting to replicate catalog living in your own home, we are headed to steal the style from the pages of the look book from Crate & Barrel's upcoming Fall collection. The room is a great fit for any home. But with the price tag of $5,228, it's not the greatest fit for every budget. So let's steal the style, and save a bit.
What I love about the room is it still has those light traces of a summer's day left over, but the wood grains in the space and the bark tones provide a color pallet that makes heading from summer to fall with your design very seamless. Change out a throw, the flowers, and some art and you have gone into the season with a room that is sure to bring life to your home.
Let's start with the furniture in the room. The couch is a classic shape and has a great white colored slip cover on it. If it's too stark and that scares you, opt for a color that is just as transitional and will help your room flow from season to season. The Crate & Barrel (C&B) couch is $1,899. We scored this Birch Lane sofa for $699, saving us $1,200 on the couch alone.
Coffee tables are the perfect accent piece to anchor any seating space, but proportions are everything. But, this style can cost a bit more than expected since they are solid pieces of natural wood. This C&B wooden slab coffee table bench will set you back $700. We were able to get one in a darker stain but just as spacious and sturdy from Pottery Barn, AND on sale for $418. Thats a $282 savings.
While we are talking about the woodgrain elements in the room, let's finish off the look by scoring a stump end table and a wooden framed oversize mirror.
The C&B wooden stump end table shows great character with all of its imperfections, but will cost about $400. We were able to get our hands on this West Elm tree stump end table and purchase it for only $249, saving us $151.
Now for the biggest statement in the room that will show the biggest "reflection" of your style is the mirror. The C&B slat wooden frame mirror makes a big impression and makes the room seem larger, but its cost will make your budget seem a lot smaller. This mirror cost $1,000, but you know exactly what we did, we managed to get one that looked very similar. Again, we love West Elm, and they had one for less than half the price at $499. That just saved us $501.
Now for our favorite part with accessories and art. The C&B catalog features a lamp that pays homage to a tripod style floor lamp. Its retail value is $230. We found one at Target that is an even better fit, and yep... you guessed it, and even better price at $75. We will take a $155 savings on a lamp any day.
You know how we are when it comes down to art. Our rule, never pay high price if its not an original. But someone missed the memo on that one when they sold these C&B watercolors for $500 each. We always say shop local and go to the artist themselves, and thats what we did where we scored these from Nancy Knight Art on Etsy for $40. You can buy a whole lot more of them with the $460 you just saved.
We love these because their warm tones set the vibe for the perfect fall weather, and the watercolors make them a little more abstract and aren't as heavy and dark as an oil painting that would be better suited for winter.
All in all, we love how this room can go from summer to fall with the style of warmer tones we managed to bring into the space. BUT what we love even more is that we managed to steal the style for $3,079 less than what the catalog was trying to sell you!
